No horsin’ around: La Luke 2013 Chardonnay

La Luke 2013 Chardonnay retails for $20

A wine for a horse? Of course!

A tribute to La Luke

La Luke Chardonnay is a tribute to La Luke, the World Champion hunter jumper horse owned by vintner and equestrian Lynn Larson.

Larson is the proprietor of Double T Ranch Vineyards, located in the Carneros AVA in Sonoma County. The vineyard comprises of six acres of her ten acre ranch, which is a working horse farm.

With a degree in Agricultural Chemistry, Larson has felt comfortable and confident in her ability to develop high quality grapes for Ultra Premium wines. Her Chardonnay is just the start.

La Luke 2013 ChardonnayLa Luke Chardonnay was made by winemakers Cynthia Cosco (Passaggio Wines) and Linda Trotta (formerly of Delicato, Swiftwater Cellars and Gundlach Bundschu). It was barrel aged in neutral French oak and sur lie aged for 15 months.

How does it taste?

The 2015 La Luke Chardonnay is a nice wine – it’s a complex and unique Chardonnay that will easily convert an anti-Chard wine drinker into a pro-Chard drinker.

The nose is filled with citrus and even a touch of Granny Smith apple and river rock. It’s got a great minerality, with a delicate, cheesy taste complemented by nectarine and lemon zest. The acid is just right.

It’s not widely distributed, so check out their website for more information. doubletranchwines.com. I picked mine up locally at Sonoma’s Best
